For example, there are times when I’m not able to remember my unconscious thoughts and feelings. This is normal for me and in most cases, I can handle this self awareness.

At times, this intermingling happens for me. For example, when I’m doing something that I’m very aware of, like running on a treadmill.

Because you have not been thinking about yourself for a while, I will assume that you have had enough of your thoughts when you get to sleep.

You can also, for example, get distracted by a thought about someone you care about and then go back to what you were doing. This is called “relational operation.” In other words, you have a mental “operator” (a term that can refer to a person or machine) that controls your thoughts, which means that you will no longer think of things that might make you anxious or upset (like how you might think about your friend’s birthday).

The other thing that could be a reason for having a relational operation is “yourself”. If you have a self-aware, self-promoting computer that controls your thoughts, you will have a relational operator. So, for example, if the computer controls your thoughts about being on the beach or having sex with your spouse, you won’t have a relational operator, but you can still have a relational operator.
