They are all “static” items like the internet, and they only require a dedicated server. This is how this is made up. We’re talking about a server when we say “the server”, not the client. So even if a site uses a load balancer, it’s still possible to hit a static server.

The other option is to use the server’s own resources to make requests. A lot of these websites don’t actually make any requests, just serve up HTML for images to be loaded, scripts to be injected into the page, and other basic functionality for the page to run. Most of the time, this means that the server is behind a load balancer because there is no reason not to.

The other servers that are used by these sites are typically on the same machine as the site itself. This allows for a lot of redundancy in the servers, with the load balancer being able to pick up requests for all of the services that the server is providing. This is especially important for sites that are hosted on the same server, but don’t actually have a server sitting there.

This could mean that the load balancer is actually being used for redundancy, but that would be a lot of extra effort. Instead it could mean that these servers are being used as part of a load balancing system to be able to make sure that all of the services are running as well as possible.
